While its steering might not be the most garrulous in its feedback, it is exceptionally quick and direct. My test vehicle also featured a $2,300 electronic limited-slip differential and a $5,500 set of lightweight 20-inch forged wheels, further enhancing its performance envelope.

The interior of the MC20 Cielo builds upon the significant quality enhancements introduced with the original MC20. My tester featured a sophisticated two-tone “Ice/Grey” finish, accentuated by distinctive triangular stitching on the seat cushions and backrests. The dashboard is a harmonious blend of carbon fiber and suede trim, elegantly housing two 10-inch displays that manage the digital instrument cluster and infotainment functions.

Similar to its exterior, the MC20 Cielo’s interior is characterized by a refreshing simplicity, with the majority of vehicle controls managed through the central touchscreen interface. The center console is a striking piece of exposed carbon fiber, elegantly housing an updated drive mode selector and a select few essential physical buttons.

While the interior is undeniably functional, its overall design leans towards the conventional. The seemingly detached “floating” screen positioned to the right of the steering wheel feels somewhat like an afterthought. Unlike the rest of the vehicle, there’s a suspicion that the MC20’s technological integrations might not age as gracefully as its timeless exterior and mechanical components.

However, the addition of numerous optional extras, such as the $39,000 exterior carbon fiber package, $10,000 carbon-ceramic brakes, and a $7,000 interior carbon fiber package, brought my specific test vehicle’s price to $339,700. Considering that a Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica Spyder begins at $239,000 and typically concludes at under $300,000, the Cielo’s elevated pricing strategy could present a notable challenge as it seeks to establish a significant foothold within the competitive supercar segment.

When viewed in its entirety, however, the MC20 Cielo stands as a formidable and compelling entrant into the elite supercar space. It is undeniably stylish, exceptionally powerful, and profoundly thrilling to drive, successfully ticking all the essential boxes. Nevertheless, given its substantial price tag, the conventional nature of its V6 engine configuration becomes a more pronounced point of consideration, particularly when juxtaposed with competitors who are actively pushing the boundaries of innovation with their advanced hybrid powertrains. Furthermore, certain interior technological implementations do not feel quite as seamlessly integrated as those found in comparable vehicles within this segment.

Despite these minor reservations, the MC20 represents precisely the kind of vehicle that Maserati should be prioritizing. Its multi-hundred-thousand-dollar offerings, such as the MC20 and the GranTurismo, provide the Italian marque with an unparalleled platform to showcase its engineering prowess and heritage. Thankfully, Maserati has embraced this opportunity, moving beyond less successful mass-market ventures.
